I have gotten a vibration since changing the rear differential. I don't think it is from there. It starts at about 25 mph and is mostly gone at about 38 mph. The steering wheel actually shakes, feels like you are driving on the center line rumble strips. I jacked up each side of the front and wheels turn smooth as glass. Any ideas on how to find the bad bearing? 2000 F-350 4X4 PSD
Changed the whole differential. I will remove the rear drive shaft and see if it goes away.
Thanks
Do you have a shop around you that can at least check the shaft to see if it's balanced, or able to balance it for you?
My bet is it need to be balanced. Definitely check your U-Joints, too. I replaced 2 of the 3 rear shaft U-Joints on mine, and they BOTH needed to be done. (I couldn't get the saddle off or I would have done all 3.)
I did replace the u-joints and carrier bearing when I bought it. There is a dent in the exhaust that looks as if the drive shaft may have hit it at one time. I replaced the rear about 3000 miles ago. I will have to check around to see if there is a shop around. May need a new shaft made.
ToMang07, thanks. Had the driveshaft balanced, 95% of the problem gone. Went to Good Year to have tires rebalanced and now in good shape.
I never thought the driveshaft would have caused what it was doing, I really thought front wheel bearing. You saved me a pile of $.
Ever seen them balance a driveshaft? It was neat to see, 95% done with heat.
