Are there any disadvantages to installing a RAS vs. doing a spring swap?
The RAS seems to be a few hundred less than springs.
I have the RAS and like it. It raised up the back 2 inches but didn't seem to make the ride any stiffer. Helps out a lot when the camper is hooked up as well. Seems to level out when taking fast turns as well.
I've had RAS (both the old style and now the newer style) on the Excursion for almost 2 years. Did exactly what I wanted, raised the rear end about 1 1/2 and actually softened the ride when empty. Also helped eliminate the "rear end steer" on the EX.
I'll admit that they "look" like a band-aid or after thought (but you can not see them once they are mounted) but they do work!!! Last time I talked to the Factory, they had several "Fleet deals" and many of the Logistics companies, rental fleets, etc. were installing them.
Search on RAS here and over on the Powerstrokers forum and you will find plenty of comments from both proponents and opponents to the concept.
