Complicated problem!

Yes it's that bad. I know I'm a sd guy and all but have alot of respect for you guys and could use some help. This will be hard to sort out. I have a buddy with a 92' cc that he installed a previously running ps in out of a 96'. Wiring harness and all. Original ps was an auto where as the 92 was a manual. Right off the bat it had issues hunting for the auto. Got a new PCM for the manual with a 50 hp tune and it starts good. Then they start troubleshooting a miss and cutting out problem. Next they installed some stage 1 injectors and it still had the same problems. Since then he has just been driving it. The miss to me seems all the time and the cutting out happens at the higher rpm's. This is still the problem today after this swap 4 years ago. After working on my truck and learning about the powerstroke engine I decided to tackle his! We just replaced the turbo today with a pull off I rebuilt due to an extremely worn out turbo. While under the hood I checked the injector wires and plugs, all are good. This missing and cutting out is bothering me. It's consistent! As in it's always at the same rpm range. Also I cannot get my ae to connect to it. Second obs I haven't been able to connect with. And yes there was power @ the obd 2 port. Also did hook up a mechanical gauge to the hp oil rail and the icp looks good. At wot it stays around 2800 psi. So anyone?

Have you tested sensors?

MAP, ICP, IPR?

IDM swap? IDM is good?

All these things and a few more can cause sporadic issues with the performance of the motor.

Idm has been swapped. No change. Not sure on the other sensors. The truck runs good at idle. With the vc's off and truck running I unplugged each injector one at a time and they all had the same stumble. Meaning none of them made it run worse than another.

Could a bad cps cause this? Not your typical cps issue but anything is possible. Not even sure which one he is running.

Also since we installed gauges last week the egt's get pretty high and it only builds 20lbs of boost. Most of the time it is no where near that!

Yeah, CPS could cause the issue as well.
I forgot to list that one.

I've seen the Exhaust back pressure sensor do it also.

Ebps is hooked up but the tube is plugged. Tried to clean it and it made a hole in so it's crimped off down by the manifold. We do have a new tube to try. I guess we should change it.

Don't think ebps is going to cause your symptom.

But, back to basics .. what is the fuel pressure at idle?

X2 sounds fuel related.

Not sure. Never crossed our mind. Whats the easiest way to check it? I know there is a tire pressure looking do dad. But how or what does it take to hook it up? I've got a liquid filled gauge and hose assembly for my sd with o ring boss or 3/8 pipe thread.

Cheap tire psi gauge and a rag to shield you when you push it on.
