I have a 57 f100 with a 272 Y block. the truck sat since 2000. I have changed the oil, cleaned/ rebuilt the carb, drained the gas tank and put new plugs wires in. A new mechanical fuel pump came with the truck still in the box so I went ahead and put it on also. I put a inline filter after the fuel pump for extra protection.
Now for my question. If I pour a little gas down the carb the truck starts right up and runs untill the gas has burned off. I can see in the filter no fresh fuel is getting to the carb. Did I not isnstall the fuel pup correct. When I took out the old one all I did was stick the new one right back in and bolt it up. I took it back off and when I manually pump it there is pleanty of suction. Is there somthing I need to do that I am not aware of when installing this pump? Thanks for you help.
I would do a couple things at this point.
VErify you put fresh gas back into the tank.
Verify the integrity of the entire fuel line to the tank .
Verify the pump will produce pressure as well as have suction. An old pump even though unused could have a stuck valve.
