Well, I am currently sitting waiting on a tow truck after speaking with Ford Roadside Assist. I just left the salt lake airport after coming home from a trip. After stopping at a light and accelerating, the truck made a "clunk" sound and I immediately lost power steering. A minute or so later I lost my power breaks and air conditioning. I immedialey pulled over and then got an "Engine Over Temp" alert. I turned the truck off and looked under the hood (pretty sure what I'd see). I threw my serpentine belt. Not sure what caused it...hoping it's just the belt and not a bigger issue. I can't yet tell if the belt just came off or broke, but I can see it in there.
Waiting for the tow truck and my wife right now.... I'll post again the diagnosis when I have it.
Well, it's been towed to the dealer. From their quick analysis before they closed for the day, my fan bearing split and the fan fell off, dislodging the serpentine belt. They aren't sure if there's any other damage at this point, until they get to work on it Monday.
Here's some pictures of the tow....had a good discussion with the driver about the fact that he was in a Dodge. Very good guy.
Yes it was.... Mine was a very odd / unusual thing to happen. Good news, it should be a relatively easy fix and little or no chance of it occurring again.
I am hoping I don't have radiator or other damage though...I'll know for sure on Monday.
Glad to hear it was a simple problem, but it's a shame that it left you stranded! Like anything else mechanical, things can break. I'm glad to hear it wasn't an engine problem!
