So my 2001 Excursion had, by the previous owner rear door handles installed on the front doors to negate thieves from punching the door locks. I bought a F350 and am interested in doing this mod to my truck. Has anyone done this and what is the diffuculty level?
Shouldn't be too hard. I think the handles are the same, just minus the lock.
This doesn't make much sense to mee though. In the event of a dead battery or malfunction of the keyless entry system you would be locked out. From my experience, thieves are far more likely to break a window than mess around trying to punch out the door locks.

You can try these from Riffraff. They are much cheaper, for the same effect.

Not necessarily. I've climbed through my rear window several times from locking the keys in the truck. Slight pressure on the center window and it "unlocks" and you can slide it open. Thieves know this too.

They will break a window if they have to, but on these trucks they are more likely to pry the door handle to unlock the door because breaking a window is loud. That is why Jimmy-Jammers are made, to prevent prying the door lock on Super Duty trucks.
Putting the keyless door handles on the front doors is simply a preventative measure to keep some people out. You are right though, if they REALLY want in they are just a window away from it.
I did this to mine. It's not very difficult. As I recall, the hardest part was getting the interior door panels off (which isn't very difficult).
The only part that will stump you is fishing around for the actuator rods, if you happen to let go of one at an inopportune moment. You'll be taking one out, since you won't have a key cylinder any more.
The purpose isn't to make the truck theft-proof; the purpose is to make the thief go to some other truck.
From what I understand, the keyless entry still works even when the batteries are too dead to start the truck; if you have dome lights, the keyless entry works.
When you get the old keyed handles out, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to break them.

Maybe thieves in other parts of the country use their heads a little more than they do around here, but everyone that I know who has had their vehicle broken into had a broken window.
I once had my car broken into. My doors were UNLOCKED, but they still broke the window to get in. Then they stole my radio that DIDN'T WORK!

You must be skinny because i know i couldn't get my fat *** through there if my life depended on it.
