Rear Axle shaft problem!
I know this really isn't the right forum for this question but there are a lot of knowledgable people on here.
Well today I stopped at a stop sign and then went to take off when all of the sudden there was a pop like it hopped out of gear. Hit the clutch and then went to take off again and nothing. No gears at all. Well first thoughts were tranny, clutch. I put it in 4wheel drive and was off and running again. No grinding noises or anything so knew the rear end wasn't trashed. When I put it in gear and go out the driveshaft was spinning. I gimped it home and jacked it up. Spun the tires with it in gear while locked in 4wheel drive and both tires spun. So this led me to think I broke a shaft. Took them out and the passengers side looked fine.
Took the drivers side off and looked like this
Its off a 9" rear end. I took the carrier/gears out and felt where the splines go in and they all felt good. Could it be possible it just stripped the splines on the axle shaft? Any ideas what could have caused that? Is the carrier/gears shot to? Any help would be appreciated!
