sorry for this simple question, i tried searching the threads so as not to waste time and space... but it proved more difficult than i thought.
the truck i'm working on for a friend has very low pressure at idle when warmed up. and tends to run hot (upper third of normal range).
its an old tired lady, so who knows the real cause but thought I'd start simple with an oil change, but not sure what kind i should put in...
what oil type are you running in your 460s out there?
Back in the day I had an old Grand Prix that had oil pressure issues at idle. I wound up using 20w50 in it and it seemed to work fine. Didn't have any problems even in the cold New England winters either. I'm running 10w40 in my dent and if anything my oil pressure (according to the ridiculously inaccurate factory gauge) reads a touch on the high side all the time.
I can see that In a diesel but why such a heavy oil in a gasser?
I wouldn't consider 15w40 "heavy", granted it's not 5w30 but still, i wouldn't consider it too heavy an oil, i've ran it in negative 20 degree temps for well over a decade without issue.
That's all i have ever run in my trucks is the ROTELLA 15w40 but since doing some research i think i will end up running all Synthetic oils pretty soon...Either AMSOIL or Royal Purple.
