79 F100 302 to 302 HO Engine Swap
Hey There, I am new to the Forum, and I am hoping to get some help on an engine swap I have been working on in my '79 F100. My old 302 I had in it finally bit the dust so I pulled it out and swapped it with a 302 HO out of a '91 Mustang. I put my old Intake (I kept my F100 Carbureted ) my old Timing Chain cover with Mechanical Fuel pump, old distributor, old oil pan. My transmission is a C6.
I got the new motor to run, and it Idles...though a little rough. It drives terrible. I can't get on the gas at all, and even putting it in drive makes it die usually. I do have it wired with the firing order the same as a 351W. Any thoughts on why I can't get it running right? I have fiddled around with the timing forever trying to get it right...but that does not seem to effect the problem much. I'm wondering if the old 302 Fuel pump does not supply enough gas for the HO, or maybe i need to do some work on the carburetor to make it compatible?
Thanks for the help
