hey guys i recently posted that im putting an NP-435 in my 89 bronco which currently has the m5od in it the reason for this is because i want a stronger gear box in my truck, heard to many stories involving the words m5od and blew up, any i read on here that an easy way to install the np-435 is by borrowing the cross member off an automatic truck that has a different cross member wich bolts to the outside of the frame rail on the passenger side and mounts to the inside bottom lip of the frame rail with a gusset on the d-side is this true i need all the info i can get, a clutch job is on its way and thats when i wanna do this swap you guys have been an awesome help speacialy when i was having the problem with no spark gotta thank ya for that one
help me get this 140 lb beast in my truck! thanks in advance
Alas, I don't know enough about the NP-435 swap for newer trucks. I do know the ZF S5-42 is a DIRECT swap for the M5OD. (Uses the same clutch setup too). They are harder to come by though and it sounds like you already have the 435. Only 435 swap I've been a part of put it into a '74 behind a 300. Which still doesn't help me give you any good advice. One thing I can tell you is that the newer Bronco frames typically have two cross-member mounting locations. The aft mounting is typically for the monster E4OD automatic and the forward for the smaller (shorter) 5-speed (M5 or ZF).
heres the thing though, those mounting holes are only for the bottom portion theres two gussets one on each side that have two holes each drilled on the upper part of the frame rail but there are no holes drilled for moving those forward or back, if they can be omitted then great but otherwise id have to figure out a way to drill for those gusetts which has me stumped cause the only way to do so would be to pull the body off the bronco
