If it's the truck in your avatar, make sure both taillights are well grounded. I had a similar problem with mine when I first got it and that was the problem.
Also, if the radio is poorly wired, get that unhooked or wired up the correct way. I knew a person that could dim her parking lights with the dash light dimmer and turn signals were really goofy. I rewired the aftermarket radio and found it was a bad ground for the radio causing all the problems. Weird!!
well i got a new radio and i got that problem fixed, there was some bad connectors in the power wire, and it is grounded to the metal frame for the dash
as for the taillights, there is no ground wire, i think im going to buy a new set of 4 wire taillights and hope that fixes the problem
Thanks to everyone on this forum i recently fixed my wiring problem. My 1980 F350 400 cid had one of those trailer brake controllers that i had removed a couple years ago. Everytime it rained heavily or got cold the darned tail lights would stay on. I changed the head light switch, i tore the dash apart looking for bare wires, checked all the tail and marker light's grounds, replaced the ignition switch, i removed the steering wheel, i unplugged the turn signal switch..nothing worked. i finally found a hot-wire going from the starter solinoid to a resistor on the firewall then under the truck, while removing that i found the old 5-wire-banded-together harness for the trailer lights/brakes. It had been cut off and was appearently shorting out when wet or cold. It was spliced into the original wiring harness under the cab with those slipcing clips where you lay a wire along side the wire you want to splice into and clip them together. There were 5 of those. I removed them all, coated the old wires with silicone because of the holes left by the clips and taped it all up. Viola, everything works!
thats great to hear! i still havent gotten mine fixed, and its getting colder, and without a garage it kinda sucks haha, i recently had a fire under my dash from some faulty wiring of extra gauges, so that was a little more important haha
Those rear LED taillights are going to give you problems unless you are using a electronic flasher, or you have added load resistors to the new LED lights.
alright, i was thinking about that as i was wiring them up lol, where can i get the electronic flasher? is it a part i can get at the local parts store?
alright well i have checked all grounds and all connections no changes, and i had the right turn signal on (the one that doesnt flash with the headlights on) and when i shut the truck off it starts to flash i am baffled
