Some guy in my area is selling a '66 390 that's supposed to be a GT motor. I was wondering if any one could confirm this. Casting numbers on the block are C6ME, Rods are C6AE, and heads are C0AE. If it is a GT, whats it worth needing a rebuild? Thanks for any help.
Are the rods c6ae-a, 66-67 or c6ae-c,68-70 ? both according to my book are 390 ,410, and 428 rods but the "C" rods are listed as being GT rods . Then the book goes on to say that the C6AE-E rods are 66-70 427 , 428scj rods
The block that is a different story as there are many listings for the block from the 352, 360 390 410 to the 428 also there are some FT engines listed 330 , 361 389 and the 391 . I would measure the stroke to verify ..3.50 is the 352 or 360, 3.75 is the 390 , 3.98 is the 410 and also for the 428
As for the heads I have a COAE 6090 C but that is for a 1960 352 there is a COAE 6090 D that is a '60 352 Hp 61-62 390 HP - early 62 390HP w/dished pistons . Do the heads have any other numbers on them or just the ones you posted ? I hope somone else will chime in as I dont know how accurate this book is " Big -block ford engines", by Steve Christ

I'll try to get more numbers.
Most of the stuff listed there is pretty much garden variety. Not worth any more than 'normal' FE parts. The exception is the heads. The 'GT' heads aren't going to make anymore power than other FE heads, so being GT doesn't make them worth any more money. But some of the 352-390 special heads have smaller than average combustion chambers. If you are going racing and want more compression, and are willing to run race gas, the small chambered heads might be a good thing to have. For street duty, most of use have more than enough compression with the larger chambered heads. DF
