Hello everyone!
My girlfriend and I took the drive up there on a Saturday morning, more just to enjoy the day out in the desert rather than actually buy a truck. When we got there, boy did I do a 180!
1971 Ranger XLT with less rust than my 2001 Hyundai. Started and ran like a champ. All the trim and extras working and intact.
Needless to say we went to the bank, did the paperwork, and drove her home. We had a little hiccup in Victorville where she stalled out. The whole "dual tanks" thing wasn't explained very well to me
.She's been my daily driver ever since. I'm looking forward to slowly restoring her, nothing too fancy, but as close to original as I can do. That's my story, and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time on here as well!

Your truck has a C6, C4's were not installed behind FE engines.
If you have the optional factory installed auxillary tank: 1970/72 Stylesides: The fuel filler cap pokes thru the bedside below the scallop (bumpside) line in front of the left rear wheel.
Inside the bed is a shield that protects the filler neck from possible cargo damage.
Adjacent to the drivers side of the seat, is the manually operated fuel tank selector valve.
Below the dash, to the far left...there is a toggle switch mounted to a bracket. This switch is used to change the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.
If the Ranger XLT is an F100 and was sold new in CA, it has the mandatory Evaporative Emission System and a 22.5 gallon auxillary tank.
If an F100 not sold new in CA, or an F250/350, there is no Evaporative Emission. The auxillary tank's capacity is 25 gallons.
I bought a 1971 F100 Ranger XLT brand new at Wright Ford in Marina del Rey. Ordered it loaded: AM/FM radio, factory A/C, auxillary tank, 390/C6, P/S & P/B, tutone paint (red/white).

Got some interesting news over the weekend. The PO called me and told me that he "forgot" to give me a huge box of parts and such when I bought the truck
. He's going to ship it down to me, so I'm looking forward to some new bits and pieces. Also, he mentioned while we were talking that the engine had been replaced. He was going to dig around and see if he could find me some more info about it (the original owner of the truck was his uncle).
Thanks Bill for the trans info too!
You might want to think cleanup instead of restore.
Maybe a new seat covering.
That is a great looking truck.
