hole in floor

i have a 93 f150 regular cab. the floor under the driver side floor mat has rotted a hole in it. most of the floor is solid its just a hole about 6-8 inches wide where my left foot rests. should o go and buy a floorpan or should i just get some metal like even a road sign and weld that in therre to cover the hole?

i believe most roadsigns are galvanized i wouldnt use galvanized metal but i would think you would be ok using some scrap to fill the hole but get rid of the rust for sure
