I recently replaced the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on my 99 F-250 Super Duty. The old one was starting to give me problems (no speedometer, abs light on, hard shifts). The new sensor has fixed these issues, but when I am stopping the ABS activates. This happens while in the last 10 feet or so of the stop, and if I step on the brakes pretty hard while I am stopped the ABS clicking is still happening! Anyone have a clue? Something to do with the VSS I just replaced?
I had the speedometer act up yesterday, along with the rough shifting and ABS light...just like the VSS sensor was bad again. Turned the truck off and when I re-started it was fine...just the dreaded "check engine" light was on (I will get the code read and post what it says). Have not noticed the ABS pulsing today. Wondering if there are loose wires leading to/from the sensor?
I replaced the rear ABS speed sensor and the speedometer works now and the ABS light in the dash is off but the last 10 feet of my stop it's like the ABS is trying to kick in but doesn't and I just glide an extra 10 feet with my foot on the brake pedal. I tried just pulling the fuse and that solved my breaking issue (removed the abs) but of course my speedometer was not working and truck was shifting hard.
After a little more research, it seems that others out there have found this to be a problem with a front wheel ABS sensor. I'm still scratching my head b/c my '99 does not have sensors in the front hubs.
