Well, here I live in Bastrop and Sunday I learn that about 2-3 miles down Hwy 71 is a big fire. Being the Ford truck enthusiast that I am; the first thing that I did was gas up the '56 for a get-away if needed. Turns out that the fire was actually 3 of them joined as one. So far they are saying that it has consumed 500 homes and 30,000 acres! Yesterday the sky looked like a warzone. Of course the 35 mph gusty winds were making it spread like.....well,, like wildfire. The Governor was about 4 blocks from my home visiting a Middle School where evacuees are.....don't know why he didn't come by my house and say Hey.
I know there are a few f100s in the area and I hope they and their owners are all safe. Also saw a few hotrods and classics on trailers which evacuated and were parked in various places.
Today the winds have died down and now Bastrop is blanketed with blue smoke. Crazy.
Sam,,,,,you still ok?
Hang in there Ferguson - I'm wearing a surgical mask as I type this - It was real smokey over the weekend - Our problem fire in Northwest Austin was 5 miles down the road in Steiner ranch. Tha Bastrop fire looks bad -
stay safe over there.
I hope all are safe. Here in New Mexico we had a hellish fire season. We had several large fires caused quite a bit of problems. There for awhile the visibility here in Albuquerque was down to about 2 miles or less. There would be ash covering your vehicles in the mornings...yuck
This year has to be the worst I've ever lived thru for weather. Freezing-a$$ cold last January, no rain for 6 - 7 months, searing temps all summer... I dread what the Fall has in store for us in the SW...
yes, still ok.. the Leander fire is about 10 miles from here..
still bone dry.. with no relief in sight..
we loaded the green truck into the trailer and made sure the vehicles are fuel of fuel.. I don't expect this last weekend to be the end of this problem.
we get SO many that still flick their cigarettes out the window.
Look at the way most people treat each other and the way the drive... My daughters old boyfriend is so dumb he flicked a cigarette out the window and it landed on a cop car... Thank god she wised up!
Been watching the news from PA - Thinking about all the folks all over the Southwest and praying that all will be well for them.
Remember you can rebuild a home and still have the good memories, If they tell you it's time to evacuate mount up and get the hell out of there.
They've been bad here in OK too. Not real close to me but close enough to be able to smell the smoke and have my eyes water from it. 'Idiots' is the correct term for them that throw cigarette butts out car windows. Had a cigarette butt hit me on my bike one time and pulled up next to them and they couldn't figure out why I was so upset.
I can't count the number of times I have pulled over and stomped out small fires from butts before they got real big.
I guess the whole state must be on fire! We've got a large wildfire about 15 miles north of me, in the Magnolia/Tomball (northwest of Houston) area. It has consumed many homes and hundreds of acres. Lots of smoke and ash in the air but we are OK where I live. Pray for rain! You fellow Texans stay safe.
