Black Smoke and Engine Knock

I added Diesel Kleen to my truck last Friday before a camping trip. I've been using it regularly w/o any problem. However, this time I put in extra. I used two of the 40 gallon treatments after I was told that you really couldn't use too much (within reason). Now, my engine has a weird knock to it and is putting out a ridiculous amount of smoke at any RPM. When I accelerate, you can't even see the cars behind me. When I'm cruising or idiling, it looks like the cars behind me are driving through fog. Also, it is running rough and sometimes has a hard time starting. Is this from the DK or is it just coincidence (I had 3 injectors replaced 18 months ago)? Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

I vote for coincidence. I have read that some guys fill their upper filter canister with DK after a filter change, and they didn't mention any smoking. I do not think DK will cause it to smoke.

So am I looking at injectors? Has anybody else had this problem?

What color is the smoke? Whiteish? Like fog?

What does it smell like?

How is your coolant level?

The color is whiteish/gray when idling/cruising and smells like diesel. SOLID black when I accelerate. Coolant level is good.

Also, it shakes pretty good at idle. The knocking sounds a little higher pitched than the engine iteslf. The problems developed in a very short amount of time (a couple of days). However, I did notice a little (very little) extra exhaust when accelerating a few weeks ago.

sounds like an injector stuck on

and I wouldnt drive it it may hydrolock

have you scanned for codes

if an injector is stuck on it may burn a hole in the piston

I vote for injector nozzle failure or a leaking injector washer. Knocking could be from an overfuel issue and it's VERY easy to burn or melt a piston when this happens. Do a balloon test or a bubble test--your mechanic should know how to do that.

I think that would be a wise decision. Burning a piston will cost you $$$$ more than a tow bill.

same thing just happened to me. leaking egr cooler putting coolant into intake, caused three injectors to stick open. after the egr was deleted two of the three came out of it. number 5 injector was stuck open. i had the same smoke and it was a terrible raw fuel smell. the deisel tech that did my work said that he sees the injector sticking open alot with a leaking egr cooler but they work after the egr is fixed. he said most times they stick closed but something about the coolant makes them stick open
