In my last thread someone mentioned adding overdrive to my c6 tranny. Is this possible and where do I go to get it done? I like the c6 because its strong but want overdrive(increased milage and less noise). I have looked around and found the AOD to be weak and I don't want to spend the time converting from auto to manual. Also how much would it cost?
the AOD can be strengthened, but that might be more money and hassle than you want to get into. The best way to get OD one a C6, IMO, is to hang a GearVendors splitter off from the back of it. They have a web site which I don't have the link for at this instant but if you want a nice and durable unit, they make one. It also lets you run the OD with 1st and 2nd gears so you effectively have a 6 speed. I think you will spend about 2500$ DF
The AOD can be made to take gobs of HP, but you see most of these in lighter cars. Depending on your driving style the tranny may or may not take the weight of the truck. The C6 is stout and for a much smaller amount can be made very reliable behind some big torque. This still leaves you short of an overdrive though. Search for a used Gearvendors, you could run it as is or get it rebuilt if you wish the peace of mind. Also US Gear has a smaller OD unit that will bolt to the C6 that is manual (stick shift) but is only good up to 500HP. The E4OD can go in but you'll want to make sure it has been properly rebuilt as its not near as forgiving as the C6 if any dirt is present. The additonal cost of a stand alone computer to shift it needs to be factored in. To sum it all up, you have several options but none are very cheap. Your not alone though, I'm weighing the pro's and con's of the same options.
