I put new rotors and pads on about 5000 miles ago. Friday my wife said the front right brake was smoking when she got home, also a couple of days earlier while sitting at a light holding the brake peddle down to keep from moving forward, the brake peddle went down about half way to the floor. It only did this once.
Saturday I tore it apart and found the caliper was leaking around the piston. I replaced calipers and pads on both sides. I bought the expensive ceramic pads that supposedly don't make dust, I've never used them before.
Today we head out to the inlaws for a picnic and the brakes are grinding like the pads are down to the rivets and as it comes to a complete stop a loud clunking sound that can be felt through the steering wheel. It did none of this on saturdays test drive or yesterdays trip the grocery store.
I nursed it back home and figured I'd check with the experts before heading out to tear it apart again.
Aloro you were very close but you did not take into consideration the occasional stupidity of the op.
When I installed the new calipers I hand tightened the bolts and went to hook up the brake line. I forgot to go back and tighten the mounting bolts. the caliper was hanging by 1 loose bolt when I got it home. Took a while to find a 14mm bolt on the holiday but I finally got it back together and no vibration or extra noises.
