I need some help on a brake problem. I have a 65 F100 that i put disc brakes on, the installing went without a hitch, brakes work fine, good pedal, etc. The problem is I can,t lock the brakes up on asphalt, they will lock up on hard dirt. Everything was bought from NAPA for a 1976 F100
except the spindles they was bought from a fellow in Washington state and he gave me a used proprotional valve, I am thinking the pro valve
may be the Problem?? if the rear brakes locked up when all was drum brakes, why want they lock now, nothing was changed on the rear.
Wouldyou give me the correct part number for a 76 F100 porporitional
valve, maybe I can find one, was they the same for other year models?
Bill, I will thank you now, I have read a lot of your posts and I appreciate
all time and effort you have put in to the information you put on this site.
the m/cyl on the 66 is a single cup reservoir...1 line fed front and rear...after that seperated front and rear reservoirs..front brakes do the majority of the braking on cars n trucks...thus front reservoir on many rigs is larger then rear. The prop valve could be bad...or it might not have been from same rig as rest of setup...assuming it is, it could be bad...I believe theres a switch in/on them that is the switch telling you you got failure in one or both ends...that could be bad...Im not sure if its intergral with prop valve or not...did you change your rear brake hose ?? It could be a partial cause to the problem as well if its collapsing inside....
Did you bench bleed the new master cylinder? If you don't bench bleed it before installing it, you may not be able to get all the air out of it and it won't work properly.

C8AZ-2B264-A .. Plastic Low Brake Fluid Warning Lamp Switch / Available from Ford.
This little charmer is a POS, develops cracks in its threads. When this occurres, brake fluid seeps out, the low brake fluid warning lamp on the dash comes on...and stays on.
Applications: 1968/79 F100/350 & Bronco / 1969/79 Econoline / Misc 1968/70 FoMoCo Passenger Cars (1967 is one year only: C7AZ-2B264-A).
Since nothing prior to 1967 had the warning lamp, just leave the switch in place to plug the hole...hope it doesn't start seeping.

ND, the literature I have on the valve D5TZ-2B257-B says that the Metering valve part
can be replaced, does your breakdown on this valve show a part number for the
metering valve? Do you think anyone would have this part?? THANKS
Bill, I have got to go with you on this, I know from your posts you have the numbers, THANKS I will hunt another valve to replace this one.
Here is the link I got the information from, read what it says about the
Metering valve, I have trouble with the front brakes and thats where I came up the question. THANKS again.

The guy that typed that jazz needs to look in a Ford parts catalog.
He claims: all trucks with front disk brakes have a combination valve, mistakingly called a proportioning valve.
Correct Ford terminology: Brake Differential Proportioning Valve.
More mis-information: If defective, a metering valve is serviced as a replacement.
This only applies to 1968/72 F250 2WD's and F350's with optional dual piston caliper disc brakes.
The metering valve (C8TZ-2B161-A) was available by itself, because it was a separate part. It was not part of the Brake Differential Proportioning Valve.
This metering valve has a bracket made as part of it, bolts to the left (drivers) side outer frame rail, adjacent to the engine crossmember.
