we had a tree down in the road tonight and no one wanted to help and we needed out so we tried to move it. i backed my truck up and hooked to it and started pulling limbs off one by one in 4wd high until we got to the main part of the tree. now it did just fine until then. it was pouring the rain and im guessing my belt had gotten wet and was causing it to whine but after a few attempts in 4wd high i put it down in 4wd low and tried tugging. i didnt get very far before i started wheel hopping a little bit and i quit or i started pulling to the side. but through all the backing up and pulling forward and gear changes i heard some wierd sounds im not used to. ive never had the truck in 4 low since ive had it by the way (its also auto locking hubs that are less than a year old and not used more than 10 times).
first off is a loud clunking normal when putting it in reverse and park and drive and everything while in 4 low? and then i heard a little bit of a squealing noise kind of coming from the front driverside tire. no real burning smells or anything but whats up with it?
yes i admit i probably shouldnt of been trying this with my truck but im sure some guys have done alot worse..
anyways what all can i do to make sure i didnt tear anything up? any maintanence i need to do to the front end?
all i can think of is:
-front driveshaft u joints
-transfercase fluid change
-front end fluid change
-look over everything real good
anything else i should look for? i did have the chain hooked to the tow package by the way.
