96 eddie bauer trans.
I just bought a 1996 Eddie Bauer ext cab 4x4. It has a 5.0 auto with push button 4 wheel drive. The medal line coming out from under the EGR valve has a section missing. The engine seems to run fine but the check engine light IS on. I'm sure that's the reason. But my main concern is the transmission. It goes into gear fine but shifts very smoothly & lazy. While driving down the road, its seems to constantly go in & out of gear, kinda like its slipping then catching. But when I mash down on the accelerator, it pulls good. The truck has nearly 200k & I'm sure the trans needs flushed & filter replaced. But does the missing piece on the EGR valve have anything to do with it? Also, is the trans. ruined or is it salvagable? Also, can anyone tell what trans.is in it & transfer case & front axle? The truck is just sitting in the back yard. I really don't want to drive it until I get the trans figured out. Also, will the OBDII code reader for a '89 Ford work on my '96?

TC BW1356
Front axle Dana 44 reverse rotation
89 was OBD 1
96 is OBD 2
Your reader must be OBD 1 and 2 capable.
E4OD is controlled by the computer.
Get codes and post here when possible.
