Had a pretty good day Saturday. Friday night was a late night as my buddy Jeff bought a 90 ranger that was originally set up for pulling with a stroked out windsor motor and the owner started making changes to make it into a mud truck. Other than being too tall and really heavy, we think we can make it into a runner. So against better judgement of not knowing ANYTHING about the truck, he ran it Saturday morning in the 35" class. Found out quickly that it was an open rear and the spider gears must have been broken as it only pulled the front tires. Any way, here's his attempt:
Then came my X class pass. I had an oops at the staging lane with a little jump, then a missed shift from 1st to 3rd. Still pulled a fast enough time to take a 2nd place win. The 1st place truck had me by only .04 seconds! This thing is hitting hard when it's on the frosty jug!
No time to wash, just a quick tire change to be the 1st truck in the hole for C class (39" and down). Made an 8 second pass and I knew it was not even close to the money.
And my last pass in the D class (any DOT tire) for a 3rd place finish. I drew #45, and had 3 trucks after me, 2 of which got the 1st and 2nd place finishes. I pulled a 4.433 second pass too.
No, I just didn't see it yet. I shall watch vids and report back. Most likely saying you need a trans brake or to rev the motor w/ foot on brake before launch :flip
bish, transbrake goes in this weekend in NC. Get your junk ready for Oct 1st at Saluda. We can have 3 trucks running now that Jeff got that ranger with the little Windsor stroker.
Yep. He bought the truck at 10pm on Friday night and I towed it to Nick's place to put on the old trailer and he raced it Saturday without knowing what was in the truck or what was wrong with it. Had to find out sometime.

Still doesnt beat the **** we've done.
Vids look good. Seems like the cuts really hurt the truck. Your RPMs are up with the uncut boggers though.
It's been running good with the cuts, I got off when I went to stage and didn't make it to neutral and jumped, then with the lock lever pulled, I went back to 1st and it went right to 3rd. Had I let off the lever, it would have gone 1-2 and the nitrous kicked in off the jump. It was a mental mistake I'm hoping to fix with the addition of the trans brake this weekend!
I really need a set of skinny 38" boggers or 38x12.5 tsl's to cut for up front though.
Sold the skinny 38's back in the Spring to afford the wide 38's that I need for the DOT classes. I'd like to cut a set of TSL's like the v-cuts at Racinginthedirt. Them bad boys in the 38x12.5 size are 47#'s when cut! The 38.5x11 boggers are 50#, but don't look as badazz as the TSL's
I know about needing the seat time. I've made so many little changes for the good this year, it's like a new experience ever week. Yeah, yeah, excuses excuses....
As for your truck, your stuck in funky rotating shift work land and I know from personal experience it screws with your motovation to get stuff done as your sleep pattern is constantly changing. So, you'll get it done in your own time or I'll make a weekend road trip down to jump in and lend a hand for next year!
Ill ask Johnny about some tires. If anyone knows were some are its him.
PS, Ill let you know when the next race is in Branchville. $10 to make passes all day long.

It really does. Add to it the overtime and etc Ive been working plus other projects that friends and family put on my plate I havent had much time/energy for anything other than laying on the shop couch, drinking liquor and watching TV. Ive officially achieved NOTHING today aside from this mornings doctor visit.
Only reason I sold them was the skinnys kept pulling me down in the front and I wanted the wides up front to float it on the DOT's and it's finally almost getting there. With the cuts and nitrous, I am on top. It's hard to see in the video, but Nick and a few others said that when I launched the front end was skimming the surface but when I shifted to 3rd it sunk down a good 6-8" but came back up to just barely the treads in when the nitrous finally kicked in. Them 38x15's are heavy as heck, so a set of narrow cuts and I'll be carrying the front like Critter and Johnny!
sorry karl, i saw this the other night and went to reply but got caught up with kid stuff and closed out of fte. i don't regularly check the forum, just my control panel and this thread must've got passed over for a bit and made it's way down.
truck's looking and sounding good, but like you said you need more seat time with all the changes you made because you can tell you're not hitting it's full potential. a little more dialing in after getting the trans brake setup done and i think you'll be doing way the hell better.
Hey Karl, have you changed anything in the exhaust or motor recently? The idle sounds way different then I remember. Maybe it's just idling higher.
Also, is there anyway for you to move the weight towards the back more? Any room to move the engine back or the front tires up more for better weight distribution? Have you thought about different shock valving up front more like a drag car so the front end pops up when you launch and shifts all the weight to the rear tires?
I've been to a limited number of races up my way, but it seems all the fast trucks up here have the cali lean going on when they're in the pit front end pointed toward the sky and the rear planted down hard.
