First, let me confess I'm not a gearhead. I have a 1987 Winnebago Rv with a 460 engine. I can't get it to start. I started with a new fuel filter, no luck. I changed the coil, no luck. Now I have 12VDC at the battery side of the coil, but no spark at the output to the distributer. I pulled the distibuter head, thinking it was the points. OOPS!, no points. It has a star shaped unit in the bottom, with the star points passing a coil-like pickup unit. Now I'm lost. Where can I go from here? HELP!!
No TFI on the side of the distributor it that 1987 RV.
From his description of the distributor he has the DS-II Ignition system.
Try changing the Ignition Control Module on the drivers fender. It is a square looking box. Make sure the one you put on it has a blue on the bottom where the wires go in it.
If that does not fix it try replacing the pick up coil inside the distributor.
Subford, you hit the nail on the head. I changed the pick up coil, but that didn't fix it. I just finished putting an ignition module in it, and she fired right up. WHEW! Upside is, I've now got a whole bunch of parts that won't go bad anytime soon. Thanks for all the advice. Soon as all my skinned knuckles and punctured skin heals, things will be as good as new.
