Question Programmed 7.3 Concern

Hi Everyone,

Quick question......I have a 2002 PSD Crew Cab with 4" lift and 33's. I have the 1705 and its programmed to the 60 HP setting. The only other mods I have is an AFE Magnum replacement air filter but still stock exhaust.

Up until I read some posts in another thread, I wasn't concerned as much with EGTs on just the 60HP setting. I do plan on adding the exhaust system in the next month or so. My main concern now is that I am about to take a 6 hour road trip and I am wondering if my EGTs are going to get to high. Should I return it to stock for the trip? I won't be hauling or towing anything.

Thanks for the input!

What i did , was install a exhaust cut-out right after the downpipe for when i go on road-trips , or haul my 28'' enclosed trailer. It just opens with three wing nuts - and you can close it back in less than 5 min.

If your on the 60 w/o any weight, your EGTs shouldn't get too hot as long as you don't hot rod the thing. I always like gauges so that I know if it is getting too hot. Plus I think that they look pretty cool:

deep6,

I decided to go about the mods in the opposite direction of most. I installed gauges first then did the pipes then the chip then the tymar. I wanted to establish some kind of baseline. Before the chip I had a hard time getting the EGT's up past 900*. Even in the 60 hp setting I only see 1150 when I really get on it. 80 mph up hill.

You'll be fine but get some gauges. That $300.00 tuner can cost you a $7,000.00 motor.

I think that I also will go the way of PCwirepro. I think that the gage set up will have to be the first mod, concerning power.
DcSpecial. That has got to be the nicest hood set up that I have seen. I noticed that you had two diffrent hoods in your gallery. Which one is currently on the truck? I think the heat extractor hood. with the single out let (at least that what it looked like) was the best looking. Did you see and reduction in the heat build up on the motor, or was it more of a matter of looks? If it really did reduce the heat and look that good then you hit a home run with that set up.

Actually only one hood.........just pics from different angles to get an idea of how it looks. I put it on the truck when I had less than 200 miles on it so I don't know if it did make any difference....never gets hot though. I bought it for looks, the fact that it is supposed to be functional, and that no one around here has one that I have seen.

I'm going to check the Keystone site and find out everything that I can about it. Do you remember if they had an actual claim of how much heat reduction or was it just part of the advertising? It really doesn't matter though cause I do like that hood. I have seen several of the Cowel Induction hoods around and think that it still looks a little to much Chebby. I am trying to stay away from that and have somthing kind of unique. You hit that one on the head.

I don't remember any claims of how much heat it actually removes. I just knew that they called it the 'Heat Extractor Hood' and said it was functional. I liked it better than the Reflexxion and Cervini's. Just FYI if you get the Keystone, you'll need to pop the hood after it rains or you wash it......some water stays in the vents. As soon as you open it, it all runs out the drain holes that it has underneath. And I think you can hear the engine more since you no longer have that insulation or padding (whatever it's called) on the underside of the hood.

A lot of people have asked about it around here, but no one has bought it due to the $$$ it takes to buy it, have it boxed and ship, and painted.
