New 5" exhaust issue

Hi everyone, can anyone help? Here is what has happened, long story short. Got a new turbo installed by Ford cost me an arm and leg but it is fixed and I have a warrenty. I recently bought a cheap ebay intake and bought a 5" exhaust from diamond exhaust it has a 4" down pipe and then goes to a 5" free flow muffler. during the install I noticed that Ford didn't hook up the backpressure actuator so I hooked it up and finished the exhaust install. started the truck and it sounds great at idle but when I drive it the exhaust makes a fluttering or bellowing sound. I checked for exhaust leaks everything is perfect. So im kind of stuck at this point. by the way I dont have a tuner or anything special YET. the only thing I can think of is that I have to much exhaust for the truck at this point but not sure, or me hooking up the backpressure actuator has something to do with it all.Truck is a 2000 F250 SD 7.3 4x4. Hope someone has some suggestions or knows what I can do
Thank you,
Paul

Wish I could help about the backpressure actuator, but I'm ignorant on that subject. The fluttering sound is tough to diagnose without actually hearing it, but it could just be the normal sound of the turbo whistling now that the exhaust system is opened up. I love the sound from mine. BTW, don't know that you could have 'too much' exhaust, especially since you have the backpressure actuator working. Is it difficult to unhood it to test?

For starters Welcome to FTE! You don't have too much exhaust, there are a bunch of guys on here that run the 5", now that is about the extent of my help on the subject more guys will chime in soon that know what it could be and be able to help you.

Your probably hearing the normal 7.3 PSD sound. It kind of sounds like a helicopter with the passenger window down.

That's the sound I'm hearing, I didn't hear it with the oem exhaust or could it be because the backpressure is hooked up? How do I know if the back pressure actuator is working proper I never see the lever more when I have someone Pedal the throdel for me

It's not from the backpressure valve. If that was being activated it would be making a wooshing sound an it would have no power!

Sounds like what you are hearing is normal for a 5 inch exhaust. You open intake will also be noisey but there is no such thing as too much air for your diesel.

I have the exact exhaust you speak of, I have that same sound and I love it. Its just the sound of the turbo doing what it does. I bought the 5 inch cuz i thought this sound was more noticeable than other exhausts. When i get by a building or some other structure to the right i roll down back window just to hear it even more. Dont worry, you dont have too much exhaust for that setup, especially without a tuner. I think you are fine.

A long time ago I made some recordings of my truck after I put a 5" exhaust on it.
This is what you sound like to other people as you approach them.

The only thing I would have concern with is the description of "fluttering" as this may be turbo surge he is hearing do you have a boost gauge installed? And can any one post a clip of a surging motor ^so he may be able to tell us if that's what he's hearing?
