My 4-speed crash box shifter is stuck, pistons wont move. I have soaked them in blaster for weeks, used a punch on the ends to try to move them, rotated them and they still are stuck, any ideas?
John, find another transmission. and either swap the entire tranny or just the top part. The four speed crash boxes aren't that hard to find. All the bigger trucks, F-2 to F-6 used the same transmission. You just have to make sure you don't use one out of '51 and up. These had synchronized trannies and were a inch of so longer. You can easily tell if it's a crash box or not by the shift pattern. Reverse on a crash box is to the right and back, the synchronized is to the right and up.
Well any 4 speed from 48-52 will work. f1-f6 were all the same. The 4 speed syncros are so hard to find that if you find one you should be happy! I have some shift towers if it comes down to you needing one let me know.
Any chance you have a machine shop around you can hot tank the shifter? Other than that heat the whole thing up in an oven-or propane torch to help get the penetrant into the stuck areas! Good luck.
I dont see how it can be taken apart if the detent pins and springs are messed up.

Why does someone always **** off? The man has questions if you dont like what he has to say, dont answer. This site is turning into a high school facebook page.
Bill, no that was for the reverse plunger. I actually found those on ebay and bought a box of them. That parts CD also came, nice, thanks for the heads up. I think the problems with shifting are the springs and pins on the top of the shifter. I really soaked, heated and pounded on the shift rods and they wont move.
p.s. 4tl8ford has been sending me nasy emails, hopefuly the administrators will be able to take care of him.
