I had a 2001. I actually got BETTER gas mileage when I ran faster. Truck Governed at 95. I would run 90 (no Cruise) on the interstate. The Distance was 120 miles. First time i did it my hand calculated mileage was high for the tank. So the next 3 times I made the trip, I filled up right before i jumped on the interstate, and filled up right when i got off 120 miles later. I got 18-19 all 3 times. Normal highway mpg for that truck running 70 was 14-15. Go figure. The engine was somehow more efficient.
I actually noticed that myself. A couple of times coming home I might have been in the throttle a little more that normal. After filling up and calculating the mileage it was a little better than normal. Not a big increase maybe .5 mpg difference. This is 80-85 mph area. My guess would be it puts the engine in it's sweet spot
