Driving me NUTZ. Got back from desert, tank 3/4 full of regular #2, but the last 2-3 tanks, i've been adding 2-stroke oil. Not this time, and when i rolled up home, got out, and the truck sounded like a timebomb, ready to go off.
Is there ANYTHING that will fix/cure it. I think, mine is not normal. Even at the desert, hearing 99-03 PSD rolling in/idling, doesnt sound as loud as mine, especially the sound, when i got home.
Got a new set of GP's, am thinking of ordering new pushrods too, to rule that out.
So, fire it up this morning, to warm up, while cleaning trailer out, to park in driveway, and thers no ticking noise until after 1minute or so, warming...is it the #8, or do i need an AE, and diagnose more thoroughly?
Are you sure it's an injector? I have a leaky up-pipe I'm fixing this week and it starts ticking after it warms up a little bit, kind of like your situation. It's driving me completely insane. Check for some soot on the firewall, maybe it's something easier. An AE can buzz test I believe (not too sure on that one to be honest), but you may need to flow test the injectors out of the truck.
Hopefully it's not an injector and it is indeed something simple and cheap-ish.
Timmy, let me know what you find. I ordered alot of things form Clay to see if it will fix mine. Mine runs fine but after warmed up on the freeway you can hear it at idle only. In the parking structure at Pala with the wife she heard it and said whats that. She doesn't here much when it comes to the diesel but she remarked on this one. I've heard of it being exhaust manifolds to, some get them resurfest while doing up pipe and its gone. I've also heard the ebp tube that goes to the sencer leaks or is cracked, Mine looks fine but I bought one any way, I probably won't get to upgrade my turbo and do all this work till middle of sept. To bad there wasn't another tech day. Anyway please keep me posted. Going out to wash the truck now and get some lunch.
Yo Chet, hey man, when you get ur parts in, hit me up, at same time, we'll drop the tank, and do the in-tank mod.......(read your post in other thread). Get the compression unions and fuel hose to the pump, i still have plenty of the tubing for the inlet/return lines.
Yeah, this ticking, especially, when i got home last night, it sounded like someone hitting a hollow pipe with a ball-ping hammer, fast.
No signs of soot anywhere, on the firewall, will check the manifolds later.
This "member' ask this, in 07, with no response, but his complain ,is exactly what i'm asking. The end result for him, was that he installed a 9k resistor on a switch, to the EOT, and with that, it "cured" the cackling/ticking-tapping sound. I'm curious, ifthis would work though...
I'll throw this question out there knowing the topic has been discussed before. Why not just add a fuel line from the spare SAE style port near the bottom of the fuel bowl (near the 2 main exit fuel lines) to the rear port on the drivers side head. Seems like it would become an aftermarket bolt on by one of these companies to improve flow to the #8 starvation problem? I know it doesn't solve the air problem but it does solve the flow problem and may reduce/eliminate problems of the #8 incomplete fill noise. I know some guys have tried it, any luck?? Don't confuse the port on the fuel bowl near the top where we check fuel pressure that is unfiltered. Its the lower one I'm talking about.
When you hear that ticking listen from under the truck. E99 TCs are notorious for making that ticking sound. Mine sounds terrible but I'll just live with it until I need tranny work.
Robin, I had that tork convertor noise before but I have put JW trans at 133000. Its hard to explain unless you are there when it dose it. On the way home from Morgan Hill last time I stop at arby's and at idle it was bad. Almost sounds like a trappet but I don't believe it is. Thanks for the response Robin, God Bless, Chet
If neither of you have done the FPR rebuild maybe it would help. It's not going to hurt.
Whats wierd Payson, at idle, my F/P is around 74/75 psi. When i first got my gauges, it was 69/70psi, all day long, and a slight drop, 65/66psi at WOT. Unloaded now, i get around 72-74psi, on the freeway, but loaded the other day, 69/70psi. Was tempted yesterday to remove the FRx for shiats, and see what happened, but didnt. I think iwill remove the FPR and have a look, see what, if any, problems i see. thanks for link

Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your F/P.
This is what my poppet seal looked like at about 114K. Pressure was still good and no symptoms of a problem but I did the FPR rebuild since I was installing Guzzle's billet FPR housing when I saw this. It was a problem just waiting to happen.
So Robin if I put Clays fpx on, I have it already, will this maybe cure this? I plan on doing this with some of the other things I've had for a while when it cools off and I ungrade my turbo that I have. I got an 02 set up for almost nothing from a freind so I want to try this first before going future. Thanks, Chet I no its only a guess but had to ask or do I need to buy this F81Z-9B249BB also.
Mine did this, it was really noisy when cruising around 60. I was running a fuel filter that I normally didn't run, switched back to my normal filter and it stopped. I was guessing that my #8 wasn't getting enough fuel
Just tonight, on way home, 60 mile drive, the f/p was a steady 68psi, and not a single knock, when i pulled into grocery store, and let'ur idle??? Gonna pull the FRx apart, and check the poppet o-ring/plunger thing.

If you are going to install the FRx it only takes a couple extra minutes to put in the FPR rebuild kit.
Nice score on the 99+ upgrade parts.

If I were going that far I would just have the FPR rebuild kit on hand and just do it.
