I have a '70 with a 302/auto (I imagine a C4) that I am wanting to replace with a 460/C6. What motor mount perches should I use? Is this combination longer than the present requiring a shorter driveshaft? Radiator?
Not sure on the motor mounts, stay tuned. This is a common question. The mounts from a 460 equipped truck would be my answer, but certain other mounts are good, but may require relocation.
I've seen your truck up in the bumpside forums. You've swapped to the Crown Vic IFS and that from what I've seen deletes the main crossmember. The 460 mounts from '77 on up will require you to have at least this main x-member to get them to work. With your new IFS setup, you may just have to set the engine in there and get creative. I usually start with the most common 460 engine mounts you can get over the counter at the local parts house and make sure the mounts fit around all your accessories (i.e. headers, steering, etc..) and then start fabbing up frame stands to match up to these mounts. Isn't all the tough, sounds worse than it is. You should still be able to utilize your tranny crossmember, but it may have to be re-located either forward or aft of where it is now. The C6 is longer and yes, your driveshaft will probably have to be shortened.
Dano I have been thinking about fabbing from scratch. The 302 perches are the factory perches with the bottoms cut off and a 1/4" plate welded on. They bolt to the CV crossmember. Not the prettiest way to go but it works.
