diagnostic info

I am really looking for info here on my issue. The garage says it is cam phasers but noise only occurs at around 3100 rpm and up. So not totally gone nuts. I also have a vibration changed u joint not all of them. the front portion has been replaced. I am wondering can this vibration come from the trany and how much can they diagnose with the computer at the dealer and how much should it cost me to get a print out of the codes on a total diagnostic scan?

misfire code

good afternoon

I have a 05, F150, XL, 4x4 with a 5.4L in it

I am having an issue with it, It has no power and when I hit 3100 + RPM range it starts to miss and is restricted until I reset the failure code. I am getting codes like misfire cylinder 3, miscellaneous misfires. to lean bank 2, mainly misfire cylinder 3. I do not think the plugs have ever been changed and it has 105,000 0n it. one of the mechanics I had look at it said he diagnostic said cam phasers, I never get a code for it.

Has anyone experienced an issue like this? Cam phasers are around 2500 dollars here. I heard that it was a roll pin in the cam phasers that get bent and or break that causes the problem are these replaceable? can I get these after market as I have looked for parts and been unsuccessful are these dealer only items? can the roll pin be replaced by just getting new ones at the hardware store?

I also heard that the plugs break off real easy in this engine and they are real pain and can turn costly anyone have some tricks to getting these out without incident?

can you guys shed some light for me here before I spend 3 hours tearing down my truck and then waiting week for parts I did not order in advance. I believe this is all day job if I am correct.

You need to start by replacing the plugs. I would replace the coil boots at the same time. Use dielectric grease on the boots to help seal them to the plugs.

I have it scheduled for spark plug change on Monday with with guy just down the road who owns garage he was an engineer for ford.

I must be brain dead some days as I forgot completely.

Here the story been silverado man for years and deer totaled out my truck. Got a good deal on this 05 f150. It was kind of dog so got an edge evolution programer for it;still a dog. now couple weeks after owning it and disappointed in the 12 miles a gallon it starts missing hissing can not figure it out. week an 1/2 goes by and it is a leaky exhaust gasket. 375 dollars later I have it fixed just to find out it is an after market manifold with bad gasket and broken stud. Now I am very disappointed but repair is good.

two weeks later I get this miss going on and a vibration occures. So I tear out drive shaft to replace bad u-joint and in the process I notice that the front drive shaft has been replaced already and the yoke on the rear end is cracked. 225 dollars later I have it repaired. In this process ford garage tells me the noise is my can phasers but my code reader tells me something else.

so now I am really disappointed and cranked up because I got a money pit going on. So I apologize to everyone if I can of harsh.

So Now I am hopefully 1 step away from having a truck that runs good and gets some fuel mileage. So what happens my vibration from 40 to 50 comes back.....

So I now ask myself again if I got a good deal and whether I trade it off on a silverado. I can not believe Ford would have built such a junker. Scott say It is just a fluke and he will make me happy again. I just hate it when repairs require special tools that you will only use once, maybe twice but not in near future. So to the shop we go as with exhaust manifold it is shop repair.

So there is my story.
