His statements are so true, I have a good friend who does Auto Re-upholstery and when he's ready to retire there isn't anyone who can or wants to do what he does. His work is amazing and he is busy as all get go, but the trade is dying.
Someone ran one of his vids/speeches a while ago on how he ended up with sheep nuts in his teeth (or something like that).....Funny story...and again, he's talking up his bread and butter......dirty jobs and the skilled trades need in this country.
Hey....Anyone who can drag his crew onto a factory fishing ship and spend days puking while making a show which entertains us in our comfortable easy chairs is alright with me......
I agree 100% with that clip. I work for a sawmill, I know it's not exactly wall street, and I haven't pulled a lot of chicks in the past by bragging about it, but I love it. I'm a machinist, and the 4th generation of my family to work at the same company. It used to be there was a list of guys hoping to get into the shop I work in, willing to do whatever it takes, sweep the floor, take the required classes, work nights and weekends, whatever it took. But those days are long gone. Nobody wants to learn to work with their hands, kids aren't working in the garage with their Dads, and it's about to show, big time. Within the next 10 years we are going to be in trouble at our company. We have 3 sawfilers retiring in that span, 3 millwrights, two electricians with PLC experience our lone hydraulics tech and the other machinist in our shop of two. The company brass thinks they can just put an ad in the paper and get anybody. They are wrong. They are so short-sighted and underestimate what's involved in any one of these trades, let alone how long it takes to be skilled at them, it's a joke. Sad to say, our company and our country is run by what my Dad calls, "educated idiots".
Wearing that Mike is still more manly then I am. He is making bank though tv shows, narrating tv shows. Hell he pretty much owns the Discovery Channel with the number of their shows he's on not to mention all his commercials. Since he is such a cool guy I'm happy for him.
