Trey, why even mess around, bro. Whats gonna happen is, your gonna do the flush, with your $125 coolant, $20 distilled water, everything went great, coolant looking like kool-aid, then WHAM, thermostats' sticking, after 1000 miles.
Replace it bro, and if your still on the oem w/p, i'd replace it too, and if going that far, take a gander at the oil-cooler, and if any signs of abnormal, get the rebuild kit for it, too.
If you pull it, you should put a new gasket even with the old stat. But I'm with timmyboy76, I'd just replace the stat and gasket. I replaced them when I did my water pump, happy I did.
Ugh.. Ok. This went from a coolant change to a "Coolant flush, radiator hose reroute, thermostat replacement, waterpump replacement, and coolant filter install"
I'm thinking I dont want to replace the water pump if I dont have to. I did order a new thermostat though. I thought itd be more that $25, but when I found out it was cheap I said what the heck.
I'd hold off on the water pump if you think it's ok and you don't have a ton of miles on your truck (my factory went almost 200k, but it does get yearly flushes and fills), but they do like to kick off at the worst time. Mine went south 50 miles from home, at night, in the pouring November Seattle rain. In fact, I'm probably going to be ordering a coolant filter so I don't have to screw with that again.
Bought my thermostat from Ed and it comes with a rubber gasket and I also used rtv gasket maker and a new t station housing from dieselsite. Worked great
When I flush mine I always pull the thermostat and reinstall the housing.Flush the system(DI WATER) until I get clear water.Install a new thermostat and oring, fill with ant-freeze/di water.

Good thing Christmas is coming.
Are you buying this as a kit from someone or did you piece it together? I've looked at POP's and Gooches diy pages on this and was wondering which way you went?
I ordered all of my parts; thermostat, thermostat gasket, and dual alternator hose.
But then I got a message from the Ford parts dept and they said that the gasket is discontinued and the seal for the thermostat is a part of the thermostat.
"This part is no longer available; I believe many people do not use this seal. The seal for the thermostat is part of the stat."
