89 F150 overheating
History: My mechanic replaced hoses, water pump, & thermostat fall '02 due to to same symptoms. It ran really fine for a couple of months (guage was rock solid at slightly below Normal), then I began to smell anti-freeze from the engine, but could never find any leaks when I popped the hood.
Now with the warmer spring weather (60-80 degrees) the guage is back to the same fluctutation as before the mechanical work was done.
I've been reviewing other threads for ideas. Have not yet looked into the radiator as source of problem, or the guage itself, but because of the smell its got to be real.
Anybody know if these 8 cylinder beasts were prone to overheating? Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.
