I posted this in Tranny section with some help but not exactly what I need. I'm looking for the part number or model number of the clark 5spd for a 79 F250 4x4 400 np 205. I heard they came out in 460 powerd school buses. Can anyone help?

Clark tranny are now owned by Dana. I got parts for mine at The Gear House in Edmontn, Alberta. Most tranny shops should be able to get parts for them.

If you are looking for an overdrive unit you need a 580V which can be found in f-600 and up, but so far the ones that i have looked at will only work with the FE's. Because you will need the bellhousing flywheel and clutch set up. The reason you will need these is because the Clark being a medium duty tranny has a larger input shaft there for requiring a larger 14" I think clutch disc which will not fit the flywheel of a light duty truck, which in turn will not fit in the light duty bellhousing(correct me if I am wrong). But anyway this is just from what research I have done. If you find any thing out about swapping one to a 460 let me know. Thats the only reason I don't have one now because I want a 460 in the future.

I asked if anyone has done this before but how about a 5 sp zf tranny out of a newer truck. From what I have gathered so far this tranny will bolt up to a 460 with the right bellhousing. Just need to change the tranny mounts. I think ford switched to the 5 sp late 88 or 89.

i did alot of research on this topic too a long time ago. i think someone has swapped a clark into a 4wd. i would like to know if i will work or if you have to change anything. i know with the zf's you have to have one from a 4wd. and i dont think they made any big trucks with a clark and 4wd. just like to know what you guys remember from those old post. me i wouldnt mind having a FE. i think they're great, they're just as good as a 460
