3 coolant filter changes, no goo!

Hey fellas, ok gals too...over 12,000 miles, I have changed my coolant filter 3 times and basically got nothing out of them. I did cut them open for inspection. I know, I know, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. But I was somewhat surprised, I have an early 6.0, I thought they had more issues with the casting sand. Is it typical to "get lucky" like this?

I have 13 months on my original filter. It flows as good as it did on day one, so I never saw a reason to change it. But I'm going to do it in the next few weeks when doing some other maintenance. I think we are the lucky few.

I haven't had anything in two filter changes ( I cut them open) on my early 2003. Maybe it's because I use ELC.

I think your on to something. My truck had 2 pretty nasty filters. Since my switch to ELC my filters have been spotless.

I've changed my filter twice, been using the coolant filter for 9 months
and also have had very little trapped stuff (I didn't tear it open)
but when I poured the fluid inside out it was just liquid.

Just remember it doesn't take "much" to slowly clog the oil cooler passages over time. I have the bullet proof cooler and I'm still
gonna run the coolant filter - just 'cause I can.

I'll Probably change the coolant filter once a year now.

Two filter changes for me with no gunk in the media. I did the first one at 500 miles and the second at 5000 miles. I'll probably wait until the return hose is cool indicating that the filter may be starting to clog but so far, so good!

I hate to hijack, but I think that's already been done... LOL.
So, is Fleetrite what International uses in their version of the 6.0? If so, then why the F*** is Ford so insistent on pushing the cr*p that seems to clog oil coolers? 'Cause it says Ford on the label?

Same reason GM uses Dex-cool and Dodge uses their HOAT coolant, cause it works out better for them. One coolant for all vehicles, not ford is moving to specialty orange which is a dex-cool coolant.

Really when properly maintained G-05 (aka HOAT aka Ford Gold) is a good coolant. I have had in three different vehicle, two of them diesel, and used it for a combined 200k...no issues.

I guess I'm trying to figure why people seem to have less particulate with "ELC" than with the Ford Gold stuff, especially when that particulate seems to be what is causing the oil cooler > EGR cooler failures. Is the Ford Gold coolant a good coolant, until you flow it through a LATER MODEL diesel's EGR cooler, where it is flash boiled, resulting in particulate? I have read these stories and this is my understanding of the hypothesis and have to wonder... Is the ELC more stable under the above stated condition?
This is what I am understanding from these threads. That is why I questioned Ford's decision to continue using Ford Gold, if these theories are correct.

I don't think anyone has really proven that there is a big problem with the Gold coolant. If normal EGR cooler operation caused silicate drop out, then it would happen on every 6.0L diesel, and it hasn't.

I think the problem is that oil coolers plug up. The coolant is Ford Gold, cause that is what every truck came with, so it gets the blame. ELC's are new enough that there really isn't enough data to show whether oil coolers clog less with it. Also, people that are concerned enough to switch to ELC's are probably also concerned enough to run coolant filters.

I don't see any reason that a Cat EC-1 type ELC coolant can't be run. But I have yet to see any proof that it will be any better than the Gold in the long run.

Earlier on this thread there are testimonials posted that seem to indicate that since changing to ELC the filters have come off clean. That is the information I was responding to. Unless I misunderstood, it seems to be implied that they have seen a difference in particulate.
I guess I'm just on a quest for answers. I really hope that someday there is a solution to the impending oil cooler clogging ordeal.
