hey guys, i managed to drop my 1970 460 into my 78 f250 1 ton'd
yesterday and im running into some problems with my ps pump hitting my steering box. and also my brackets for alternator are not working.
does anyone have any pictures of the front of there 460 swap, i really need some info on the pulleys maybe there is a certain style that will work?
heres what the motor looks like.
any pictures or help would be greatly appreciated
On mine I ended up doing a saginaw pump conversion with a bracket out of a van with a 460. . I used an L&L bracket for the alternator and took a 1/4 out of the spacer and it all lines up fine. If you need a pick of the alternator it will have to wait till morning it's dark out here all ready. Here's the best pic I have.
thank you thank you thank you!
this is helping alot
yeah more photos would be great man i look forward to it
do the brackets from the van all bolt on, any fabbing needed?
I used this style power steering bracket. Redrilled the top hole & made a small bracket to move the bottom bolt up and tilted it up some. Had to cut a chunk out of the end with the draw stud and weld it back in so it would move down farther in the slots so it would tighten up. The pump is a 351M-400 Sag conversion pump with the long shaft & a different can from a junk yard pump. I made the alt bracket from some of the 400's bracket & some fabrication. Lot of work but it can be done without buying the expensive L&L brackets.
Yes the van brackets just bolt right on. No messing with it required. The worst thing I had to do was get a hose made at the hydraulic shop. No biggie it's standard stuff if you stick with the earlier Saginaw that does not have an o-ring fitting on the pump.

okay perfect, i will start the hunt, would you happen to know when they went to the oring style so i dont get the wrong one?
thanks guys for the replies, its helping alot. im getting so eager to get this thing running been sitting for too long!
If the back resivour bolts are metric it's o ring for sure. There is two and sometimes one bolt. Rebuilt pumps are pretty cheap. The brackets will all work as long as it's a canned ham style pump. This is what came with a Saginaw. I know there are more but this is my list. Also if you are going for a pump be mindful of the cars with hydro boost. They have two returns in the can. Also if you are going to buy a rebuilt make sure you find a Saginaw at the yard and snag the two resiviour bolts. A rebuilt pump won't come with them.
