Nice! I am wanting to find some old school rims for my truck, but right now isn't the time (financially) for me to buy even more stuff. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man..... custom wheels arent in the budget, and I dont consider most of the stamped steel wheels unique enough for me. These wheels kind of fell into my lap too, so it was hard to not buy them, even with the 16.5" wierdo diameter.
I should be picking up the engine this week sometime, and driving the truck over to my friend's driveway to start the transformation. I gotta take the heads to the machine shop as well, so that could take a while..... I can always swap the heads with the engine in the truck, I suppose.... lol
So... I know I havent updated this thread in a bit... but I kinda ran out of $$ and time there for a bit.
So, now that Im back on track.... I thought I would update. picked up a rebuilt 460, its a D1VE engine with D2VE heads.... .ugh.... The inside of the engine is nice and clean though. super clean.
So, I picked up DOVE heads, need to have them rebuilt. I need an intake manifold, so if anyone knows of one, lemme know. Should run pretty good once I get the heads/cam/intake sorted.
It also has the mounts set up for the 76 F250, its a plate that moves the motor mount back some. I'll post picks up soon.
I love the Vectors. Any turbines or slots from that era look cool on these rides. Check out Treadwright on line, they are doing some nice recapping of the 37x12.50-16.5 tires. A guy at work is running thier caps (in a different size) and swears by them.
X2 on treadwright. I've used them for several trucks and several years. They've got one mold that's basically a BFG tread pattern for decent pavement manners too. AND they're only a half a days drive for ya. Stop in up at deadwood do a little gambling and on your way home, pick up your tires! (just make sure you don't blow all of your tire money)
You guys rock! I am kicking between the military hummer tires and those, but the military surplus may get the nod, due to 1/2 the cost or less. I will deal with that when the time comes, first I need to get the damn truck together.... lol
Forgot to post up this find.... Before I got the truck to Denver, I picked up a set of vintage Vector wheels for it. they are a little rough, but nothing a media blast and some powdercoat couldnt fix. They are 16.5" wheels, and after some research, I can run military tires on them. So.... whenever I get done messing around with the drivetrain and finally get the truck lookin good, im gonna swap these on with some 37" Hummer radials.
I used some HVAC outdoor coil cleaner (Hydroflouric acid based, I think) to clean up my Western style mags. When I bought them they had been in the back of an old garage/tire shop for years collecting dust and grease. I used the coil cleaner on them, scrubbed a little bit, another application, and viola... they look brand new. Now, I just use it to maintain their like new look occasionally.
I can imagine, that acid is pretty nasty, even in solution. same thing as stomach acid... more or less, lol.
Before I used it I did some research. I found that a bottle of Eagle One Aluminum Mag Wheel Cleaner has the same ingredients in it for a much higher price for a much lesser amount. I buy mine by the gallon for less than $15.
Now that is interesting. reminds me of the problem my parents were having with their 95 Mercedes wagon.... come to find out, the main ingredient in Iso-Heet is Isopropanol.... or rubbing alcohol, which dissolves the main fuel line out of the tank. M-B says to never add anything to the fuel.
you can buy it much cheaper at Wallgreens.... its $1 a bottle for 1/2 the content in Iso-Heet. .79c for twice the size at the drug store.
So, bit of a problem, hopefully an easy answer. what are you guys running for accy drives in these kinds of swaps? I plan on a junkyard crawl in the next few days, I remember seeing some big body fords and 460 powered trucks. your ideas would be appreciated. The goals for the truck are AC/ power steering and a big alternator of some sort.
