its been awhile since i have been on and hopefully I posted this in the right area.... but in the last month and a half I have acquired a full size '79 lifted Bronco and '82 F100 2wd. I plan on driving the F100 and the bronco I am planning on parting/scraping out and I want to take the axles from the bronco and place them under the F100
I'm looking for info on what am I going to do have to do for the swap other than the time to do it? are there any good links from someone else who has done this before?
What engines are in both trucks? If the F-100 has a windsor motor then you have a problem with the bellhousing. You need a 4x4 transmission for the transfer case to bolt up to, so you will need the either Bronco transmission or a junkyard 4x4 transmission that will bolt up to the F-100's engine.
The rear axle I wouldn't swap unless the F-100's gears are worn out. They are both the same axle. If you need the Bronco's gear ratio then just swap the 3rd member and leave the housing in place. The front axle is going to be the challenge. You're going to need to lift the truck at least 4" for the solid front axle to clear the engine crossmember. You'll need to swap everything from the radius arms to the coil buckets, including the track bar.
the bronco has a worn out 351M and C6, but the bronco also has a suspension lift on it already(not sure how much right now)....the F100 has a 3.8 V6 and 3 speed manual as of now
my plan (hopefully) for the f100 is to swap the axles (lift and all)....then like a couple weeks later find a 5sp manual with transfer case.....then eventually get a 351W if the 3.8 ever dies
I don't plan on beating the truck into the ground as it will be a daily driver but I want something that I'm not going to get stuck in the first snow drift I see since I live in Michigan or if I ever do go 2-tracking.......I figure I have the all the parts and the time, why not have a little project
