today me and my dad finished rebuilding my 1971 302 bored .40 over. Started on the first try after making sure everything was good n tight and toping off the fluids we went to drive it, when i put it in drive and started to accelerate it boged down and choked off. after starting it back up again it did the same thing over and over again. i Think it maybe the transmission holding it back because ive had problems acclerating before but notihng like this. but if you think there is something else wrong please let me know.
What does "choked off" mean? Does the engine stall?
I was asking the same.... a wheel bearing or driveshaft will not affect how the engine runs, but a poorly-tuned & running engine can sometimes have these kinds of problems.
My approach would be to verify the engine, seeing as how THAT is what was recently (majorly) changed on the thing. Is there fuel pressure, is the choke for some reason choking the engine, are the spark plug wires installed right, is the timing correct, are there no vacuum leaks, etc. etc.
There was nothing said if this is a 2WD or 4WD but I'd maybe be putting the rear end on jack stands and then trying to replicate the problem.
Another question for the OP - what, EXACTLY, does "rebuild" mean to you?
