Engine electricals

I have heard rumors that you can flash the computers on your trucks in order to return everything back to factory settings without any codes and when you do that you can also remove things from the computer such as the computers ability to control timing an such.

Is this true?

Maybe on the later trucks, but I think you have the old EECIV and you can't do much with those unless they have finally broken the programming code. See if some else chimes in.

The 96 Bronco is OBD-II.
I have heard the Ford dealer can upgrade the program in them.

What are you trying to remove? You can have a chip burned that can shange you timing, fuel injector pulse, eliminate EGR codes(if you remove your smog pump, egr, etc...) and that kind of stuff. Your truck is mass air and it is very forgiving. You can add a much larger cam, heads, headers, intake, and throttle body without much concern.

well im rebuilding the motor and punching it out 60 over. I was gunna keep stock heads and maybe shave them down. Then Cam and Crank i dont know what i can do because i thought the computer would go haywire if i got bigger ones. Then i was gunna get aftermarket sensors and a bigger throttle body intake. I would like to remove the timing from the computer so i can change it myself. Also would like any suggestions of anything else that can be removed so i can tweak it for max power because its gunna be my play toy.

You will be disappointed in the engine if you keep the stock heads.

Anything aftermarket is going to be better than stock. Even cast iron aftermarket heads which are really affordable if you go price how much it will cost to rebuild and modify the stock heads. With the aftermarket you will get larger ports, larger valves, screw in studs and guide plates with an adjustable valve train. They also have a better chamber design. I see someone on ebay is selling aluminum cylinder heads for $650 a pair.

You can pick up a used set of edelbrock 6037's, twisted wedge, AFR 165's, or Aluminum GT-40's for cheap and they will out perform even the best ported and polished stock heads.

If you buy them used I would take them and have a valve job done. Other than that I would simply bolt them on with a decent little cam and have fun.

Im not sure what you're talkin about when you refer to the year you need. Any aftermarket small block head will fit.
I would search the mustang forums for your best deal.
