Welcome to FTE,Trekker. Most of your truck will be the same as an F100, the main differences being heavier springs, a different differential, different front spindles, different wheels, perhaps a longer bed was available. Not much, if any difference in sheet metal, interior, engine, transmission.
For the most part, things are interchangeable.Shop manuals are readily available, others will tell you their favorite vendors.Get as many catalogs as you can, though you won't find one for just F250 parts.
Thanks for the help. I was srufing the net last night and did send off for a few books. I was looking for info on the color codes and production codes. Where might I find more on that? I have a color code X and one site said it was Regatta Blue but listed it on a Fairlane. The color seems to be the right color that is on my truck but then I found another that had pictures and it listed the color as some sort of green. Where can I find more about my truck?
Forgot to add that I do have an F250 with a 239 V8 which I believe is odd for a 250. Am I right on that? It is a long bed, too. DId they make F250s in a short box?
No, F250+ either had an 8' long bed or flatbed/stakes from the factory. No short beds. Personally, I like the F250 but there are some differences. I posted a few weeks ago about the difference between an F100 and F250. I will try to find that link. The main differences in the F250 - different rear end, wider rear leaf springs, overload spring setups, 8 lug wheels, brake bores larger, front spindles different but can be modified to use disc brake conversion, front wheel openings on fenders are larger on the F250 because the wheels were larger than the F100. The rest of sheet metal, engines, etc. are the same as the F100. With some mods you can easily fix and restore. Check out midfifty.com and macsautoparts.com for some great catalogs and info. Get a Ford Shop Manual, it will have plenty of info. Good luck!
I just posted the other day that I felt like the Red Headed Stepchild having a '53 F250. The biggest difference to me at this point is brake parts. I've been sourcing and pricing as I know I really should completely rebuild all 4 wheels, and there is a slow seep of fluid from the left front wheel. Have to fill the MC about every other month. Tires are gonna be a booger too as I have 16.5" rims with the "industrial" serious lookin work tires on um. My baby used to be a service station truck in her prior life, and probably had an A-Frame winch setup on a flatbed. I love that industrial, serious work ability look.
To make things even more stepchild, I have a 215/6, which if I remember right, Ford only used for 2 years. After '53 they went to the 223. Thankfully quite a few parts fit both like the F100 and F250.
Trekker, your 239 was the earliest and thus lowest cubic inch version of the Y-block motor. It doesn't share many parts with later versions such as 272,292,312.To get real specific answers, head to the Y-block section of FTE, there are some very knowledgeable and helpful folks there.
I also was starting to feel lonely out there with my 54 F250. Good to hear some others still working on theirs. LMC truck parts also has a good variety of parts and are usually reasonable. When I replaced all my brake cylinders on my 54 I was able to get them all at NAPA, as well as brake shoes. They were cheaper than any of the mail order companies. Did the F250 come out with any hubcaps available since it has the axle (can't think of the correct term) sticking out of the rear wheels? Also what does anyone's rear bumper look like, mine looks like it might have been completly welded together and added on.
I believe that a rear bumper was optional, even into my series (57-60).If you bought a truck off the lot, and wanted a rear bumper, whatever the dealer had or could get is what he'd install. There was a factory bumper available if you ordered it.
Here is my rear bumper. My truck had a Knapheide grain bed on it.
I have the 239 Y-block. Gaskets and such are pretty easy to come by.
I haven't had problems locating other parts yet, but I haven't bought much either.
Haven't been around FTE much lately, but this thread definitely caught my eye!
My truck has been in the family since new and has a heavy duty rear bumper. The bumper was made by Barden in Woodland, CA and I've seen others with similar bumpers. I'm pretty sure it was an option offered by the dealer in San Jose where my great grandfather bought the truck.
Add Mar K in Oklahoma City to your list of places that make F-250 parts. You can get the correct front bed panel as well as bed strips and cross sills from them. All the longbed parts are different from the shortbed parts as the long bed is wider as well as longer.
Hubcaps came with these trucks and will fit over the "free floating" hub of the Dana 60 rear end.
Dennis Carpenter and mid fifties sell the f250 dog dish hub caps to fit over the wheels on f250.
I will be posting pictures of my new old 1956 F250 soon. ThanksF250Rob for the help on the bed assembly.
This truck was the ''Earl'' from ''Earls' World'' on fte forums.
Carpenter says the F250 hubcaps (2J-1130-A) haven't been available since 2009. If he doesn't have any, I doubt anyone else does.
There's a current thread on just these hubcaps (1948 F2 hubcaps), I found two NOS.

There is an X listed for 1957 & 1958 Ford Passenger Cars: 1957: Dusk Rose / 1958 = Cascade Green.
There's no Regatta Blue listed for Passenger Cars until 1958: Color code Z
Three blue's are listed for 1955 trucks: Banner Blue (code B) / Aquatone Blue (code C) / Waterfall Blue (code D).
If your F250 was assembled in Canada, the color codes may be different.
Be careful when comparing digital color pics found on the net vs the paint on your truck. It prolly won't match.
It also prolly won't match if the compared pics were taken at night, in the rain, under florescent lights, or when looking at ancient paper color charts that may have faded.
