Recently I jacked up the engine on my 5.8L '89 F150 and changed the oil pump. I had to remove the intake manifold to jack the motor up high enough to remove the pan. During the same time, I pulled the tranny pan and changed the filter. The tranny pan was off for a few days and I noticed that it was constantly dripping fluid for days. After I got everything put back together and fluids back in the truck I now have two new noises! One seems to come from the tranny and is a constant high pitched ticking. The other is lower pitched and seems to come from the area of the back/top of the engine and seems to go away when you rev the engine. I'm going to have my dad listen to the noises since he knows alot more about cars than I do, but my question here is about the tranny tick. My dip stick shows enough fluid when engine is hot and running at idle. Could leaving the tranny pan off for several days have caused a problem? Oh yeah, I drained much of the fluid from the tranny through a tube stuck down the filler tube. Why the heck don't they put drain bolts on tranny pans?!
