so my fuel and temp gauge where off by alot (always going to full and hot on start) i did a search and found out that it could be the volt reg on the back of the cluster. i went and got a new one and now the fuel gauges only shows fuel in the truck when it is half full and anything under that it shows empty? the temp gauge doesnt show anything still and i changed out the the water temp sending unit and still nothing?
any help would be great, what should i look for.
also i found some doors for my truck that look to be in good shape and was thinking of picking them up? (mine have a small dent in the pass side)
what do you think a good price is for them
i have a set autometer carbon fiber gauges that i was thinking of swapping in, should i go that way ?
i would like to keep it all stock but i dont really have the money to buy oem ones right now.
Has the fuel gauge ever read right since you have had it ??? if not its possible the original float, which is 2 parts soldered together, has sprung a leak allowing fuel in and throwing the gauges reading off...its a common occurance. From my understanding the float is still available from Ford as it was used in gazillions of cars, trucks.
Before opening it up..have you checked to be sure the ground is strong ?? clean the contacts where the wires contact the body and plug onto the sending unit.
The ICVR...was it replaced with a new one or older known good one ??
It has always been off. I did check the ground and cleans them.
the ICVR is a new one but its a circuit board one that you make and has tested out to be at the right volts and its stable unlike the ones that you buy NOS it doesn't jump volts. ?
You think it could be the float and if so, how safe is it to take it out with a half tank of gas in it.?
No printed circuits boards were used on F100/350's until 1970. With a printed circuit, the ICVR snaps onto a button on the printed circuit.
Prior to 1970, the ICVR has a bracket on it that bolts to the rear of the instrument cluster. There are several different types, so if replacing it...take the original with you to the autoparts store.

As "Squire" Don said, the float is made from two pieces of copper soldered together. Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float settles to the bottom of the tank.
COAZ-9202-B .. Fuel Sending Unit Float / Available from Ford / MSRP: $14.49 / FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM (Horizon Ford in Tukwila/Seattle WA) price: $10.43.
This is a home made one, there is a thread on her that talks about making it and gives a link to a site that shoes you what you would need to get at radio shack to do it.
It works. Its nit an oem or nos.
just for sheets n giggles, have you tried a known good original in there ??
On the temp gauge another possibility...check the firewall main disconnects by the e brake cable...I would gently tweak them a bit...could be a poor connection...
I am going to run thur all the connections tomorrow (no time today with my 4 year old)
If that doesn't work I think I will check it against the new gauges I have.
Would really hate to switch them out.
