Driving home from work made a quick stop, 15 minutes, got back in started the beast up and surprise! Greeted by the oh so wonderful CEL. Tried off/on and it remains. It is amber and not red, (not sure if there is a red color or not). Decided to try driving it and seems to be ok .... maybe a little punky in reponse but nothing that stands out. 5 minutes later it starts a regen on the way home. Light remains on.
Got home, let it sit for a couple of hours and tried again. Still there. Checked things out and the only thing I can see is that the DEF reports less than half. I never did see a DEF warning on low level so I am thinking it is not that. Also checked the air cleaner as we have had chipmunks around but nothing there. Oils level is good. No water in separator. Cant think of anything else without a code reader.
Called the Dealer and have an appointment for 8:00 am tomorrow. Hope it is nothing major. Just came back from a 2500 mile trip to the Smoky Mountains. At least she didn't let me down while there.
Well, I think you have been around for a while and you know it could be the NOx sensor, def sensor, or a false code. Might want to make sure you are up to date on flashes that are specific to your build date.
So true on the possibilities. I am hoping it is somehting definative and can be fixed timely and at one go instead of something that drags on for weeks. On the flashes it is up to date as of August 23rd when it was last in. Will keep you posted tomorrow on the outcome.
This thread title gave me the heebie jeebies. I hope mine does not come back on after clicking on the thread LOL. Best of luck man.....I am out of here!!!!! (knock on wood)
I just posted almost the same thing. I have 13500 and got the light. Called dealer and he said bring it in. def is good, all other things good, best I can tell. Got add coolant regerative fluid at 3am in east jesus ok. Not comforting. Ill keep you posted on my dealer vist. You do the same.
Sgt93 ..... LMAO ..... That was funny ...... Chicken!
I am going into this with a very positive attitude and with the hopes of a simple and quick fix. I will keep you all posted on the outcome. For info mileage is 22000 km's or approx 14000 miles.
Ok, it took the dealer 15 minutes to read the code and analyse. Says a new reductdant pump is need. Part on order will be here tomorrow. Apparently it is a 4-6 hour job to replace it ..... nice.
For those unfamiliar this is the pump for the DEF Fluid. I'm not 100% sure but I beleive there are 2 pumps involved in the DEF stream and I'm not sure which one they are replacing. I will find out and advise after changed. One pump is to pump the fluid back into the holding tank after key off and the other is to pump the fluid to the dispersal nozzle as needed. Again not 100% sure on this but I do remember something many months ago on the topic. Feel free to jump in with more info
They said not a common item to go and it certainly isnt on their "hit list".
They cleared the codes and CEL is now off. Truck performance is restored and I can now peel rubber in all 6 gears ..... just kidding
Oh yes, they are also replacing the football sized Ford Logo on the front grill as the plastic is peeling off.
Update - got a call from the dealer. The is no stock of the pump in Canada or northern US. They are submitting a priority one order for the reductdant pump which apparently means it can be pulled in from anywhere but done ASAP. They are expecting a one to two week delivery. Nice.
That sucks. They should pull one from a truck sitting on the lot and replace that one. Especially for a possible two week delivery.........
We do that in my industry. I've done it myself a couple times. Its called customer service - when a machine is down that is making a guy money and theres a time frame for that to be done it doesn't matter where the part comes from as long as there is one. Getting a part replaced on an inventory unit at that point is a non-issue.
Good luck with it and let us know how it unfolds. I hope your dealer gets some sense and puts you back on the road sooner.
I'll go out on a limb and say that if you never get a new pump, chances are you would be ok. I had the light come on with a code of P15e something or other that said my pump was bad. About 6,000 miles later no problems. The way I think it happens is the DEF pump starts sucking air while thinking there is fluid I the tank. So it throws a code thinking the pump is shot.
All things being equal I really don't care if I am polluting the air a bit more than norm. What bothers me is the truck is in some sort of a limp mode when the CEL is on. It is limited in response and power. That makes a 1 to 2 week wait a PITA.
