The other day my 95 overheated, i was traveling up a steep hill and could not pull over untill the top of the hill i was 2 mi shy before the top. the water temp gauge pegged the pyro about 1300 also engine temp light on. i slowed down and had almost no power. as i reached the top to pull over the check engine light then the engine died. at this point the engine was extremly hot smoke coming out of the valve covers , airfilter , and Y pipe hump hoses etc. as i opened the hood i could see what had caused the issue. The little hose from the top of the rad. to the reservoirs had broke off. anyway it did not run out of water there was still some in the reservoir and in the water pump. it took about an hour for it to cool off enough to start. when it finally fired it sounded really rough and smoke began to pour from under the hood and the exhaust smelled like burnt oil and rubber. After running for a couple min it cleared for the most part but still smells burnt. Anyway do you guys think the motor is trashed i dont really want to run it untill a mechanic could look at. But it might not be worth it any help would be appreciated thank you.
I say you change the oil and run it. What could the damage be? Worst that can happen is you'll trash the motor, and if that happens chances are it is already trashed.
Agreed Change the oil on go just check your oil to make sure there's no water in it. My concerns would be how high did the EGY's get and how long dud they stay there
ok.... so i was looking at again today i fired it up to warm the oil so i could change it after it ran for about 10 min i shut it off and crawled under it. What a mess oil was pouring out the heads and valve covers. I think im at a loss right now.
