I have a 2000 F350, V-10. The SES light came on about a week ago. Then about four days ago the truck started "dieseling", idling really rough. It would idle high then low repeatedly like it was lunging. I took the air filter tube loose infront of the air flow sensor, it still idled roughly. I then took the tube loose up by the intake and the idle smoothed right out. Therefore in my great wisdom, I replaced the air flow sensor inside the air filter container, $97.00, and it is still running rough. Any suggestions?
I finally took it to Ford today. I am embarrassed to say it was a PCV hose that had a split in it, causing a vaccum leak. Apparently, this is a common problem on the 10's according to the Ford tech.
Wow, I had that same problem. The engine would surge and nearly stall when it got warm.
Autozone checked the codes for me (engine lean run), and reset the computer. The next day I took the air intake tube off and noticed the PCV tubing had a large split at the 90 where it enters the intake manifold.
Quick cheap fix!

I have a F350 V10 1999 gas and I can't located the pcv valve. Haynes and the other book tell me that it is located on in left side of the engine on the left valve cover. However, when i removed said hose there was no pcv valve. My truck just started idling rough today. I changed the fuel filter, but that didn't help. I have a new pcv but I can't locate the old one. Please help.....
just replaced my PCV at 48k. The original Motorcraft pc. I could exhale thru it (from the nipple side where the intake hose goes), and also inhale thru it. The valve allowed full air-flow both ways..... that ain't right is it? It's suppose to close off in one direction or the other right? The new replacement version from Autozone, only allows air to flow if you inhale thru it (towards the intake), blowing out the valve (towards the valve cover) locked up and your can't blow thru it. I installed the new PCV and have yet to try it out. If the PCV was bad, would that cause the motor to run lean at 1/2 throttle and above when the manifold vacuum is low??? My manual doesn't really tell how the PCV is suppose to work. My hoses all look like brand new. Idle quality is good.
PCV valve is supposed to pass air from the valve-cover to the throttle-body. Which means the NEW one is working correctly, and the old one AIN'T!
The PCV is going to pass air normally, which means you should NOT get lean from a bad PCV valve. If anything, with a properly working PCV, vacuum in the crankcase won't effect the intake vacuum, but chances of creating a vacuum in the crankcase without vacuum from the PCV are slim-to-none.
