I have a 2001 EXcursion 7.3L PSD. Looking at buying a 2000 F350 Dually 7.3L PSD. Were there major changes between the years?

2000 and 2001 are darn near identical inside and out. 2002 some cosmetic changes were made inside the cab, and 99.5 a lot of engine changes were made. But 2001 and 2000 should be exactly the same.

The biggest change would be 2001=PMR's (99% of the time) and 2000=Forged rods

Oops. Forgot about that.. But the rods wont be an issue unless you start doing some MAJOR power gains.

99-2003 there were no MAJOR changes in the motors...
E99 trucks had a different turbo and smaller injectors but the block and heads are the same
L99 to 2003 are all the same turbo, injectors, block and heads...
In 2000 they started throwing some PMR's in to production motors, and went full tilt at the start of the 2001 MY.
There is NO reason to be scared of PMR's at the stock power levels and no reason with good tuning to be afraid at the 350-400hp mark.

Yes, PMRs didn't show up until 2001. By 2002 all truck had them.

Really PMRs showed up that early. Wow. Was it location based or just haphazard.

It haphazard. They put them in a few motors each year to test them. Somewhere floating around is a chart with the engine serial numbers for PMRs

My Brazilian-made motor in my 2000 model-year Mexico-built truck has forged rods.
