Ok here is what is going on I know where I can get a 2000 ford expedition around 140k miles runs pretty decent awd works but the valve body in the trans is bad is it worth 800 if he will take 800?
I know a little history on the expedition it is an ex military suv it was drivin around base until it was laid on it's passenger side the doors were replaced but the front passenger door can't be opened until the fender is replaced (or atleast moved forward) it has a completely vinyl interior all the glass on the passenger side was replaced there is a good sized dent in the channel area of the back side glass on the passenger side I have personally driven this suv offroad
The owner seems to think other than the valve body on the trans it needs a wheel bearing brakes and a full set of tires I know the guy and think it probably needs all the fluids changed too!
I know it runs strong because it pulled my 86 6.9 diesel out from being stuck
What I'm trying to figure out is if this suv is worth it
He might even take my 97 Monte with 190k on it if I get another car first
Check your local junkyards for a used tranny to see what one will cost you. Add that to the cost of the vehicle along with any other repair costs. That grand total will tell you if it's worth it or not. If you can buy another for the same price as your grand total, then why buy one that needs all of that work done.
You say you have been around this vehicle a few times, and also drove it.. The question is, Is it worth 800 to you? We haven't seen it, drove it, or nothing, so we can't really tell you if it is worth it or not. All we could do is tell you, if we'd give that much, based on what you tell us.
Personally, I would if the truck ran great, and didn't have a whole lot of problems. When I bought mine, I only had 650 in it, and now, I have a little over 2 grand in her. with 218000 miles
I know it runs pretty good seems like other than the trans it only has regular maintenance issues I am pretty sure atleast 2 of cop's have been replaced I tell you it's not a pretty vehicle though
I can ask for some tomorrow but I figured it up a little If I trade the car for it I have around 1k in the car and the trans shop I talked to will do a complete rebuild for just over 1k so I would have 2k in it then if I spend a few hundred on the body I could sell it for 3 or 4k
Forgot to say the guy knows but the car has 190k needs the flywheel replaced but still runs and starts any mechanic I talk to wants 1,150 to change the flywheel and axle shafts it needs rotors and calipers and pads so I'm looking at 1,500 in a car that has 190k and is only valued around 1,600
Personally, I wouldn't trade a running car, for something that you have to dump 2k into. I'm in Eastern Ky. Twenty minutes from ohio or west va. and I've been trying to sell my truck for 2500, and its in excellent shape, and no one around here would give that much. So, With the 4 or 5k price you mentioned, Goodluck.
I wouldn't actually sell it I'm just saying it's worth 4-5k kbb value and I would only be putting 1k into it my car needs 1.5k or more the expedition runs and drives it all works it just don't shift right... It has plenty of power that's for sure it pulled my 1986 f250 xlt 4x4 ext cab 6.9 diesel out of a river basically 3 times truck was stuck because my transmission was stuck in reverse (top plate in my t19 needs replaced) and the last time it couldn't climb out of the creek but other than the trans having the small problems it runs good
