1997 f250 4x4 powerstroke. Is fine when idling or revving engine in park but I get a clicking noise coming from the front end when going down the road. It gets faster with engine speed and then tapers off to nothing when I decelerate. There doesn't seem to be anything mechanically wrong with it, no smoke or lack of power as far as I can tell. But my mind is open.
I am familiar with idi's but this is my first powerstroke, so I don't know what is normal to the engine or common as far as problems. When the days cool down some I'm going to go through it and check for exhaust leaks or bearings. I figured until then I'd let you guys educate me on these engines and see if you have any pointers so I don't have to guess so much.
My vacuum pumps always do that right before they break. You can CAREFULLY stick a long screwdriver or something on it while it is running and the other end on your ear to verify. Or go buy a mechanics stethoscope to be safer.
